Direct electron heating at moderate harmonic number for compact ignition devices
نویسنده
چکیده
Direct electron heating of compact ignition devices by radio-frequency power OSTI Abstract. in the 300-400 MHz,range is discussed. The possible advantage of this approach to heating an ignition device, as opposed to resonant heating of an ion population, is the insensitivity to the exact value of the magnitude field. Heating with central power deposition during a toroidal field ramp is therefore possible.

Characteristics of Electron Cyclotron Resonance Heated Tokamak Power Reactors
A set of constraints is derived for the operating characteristics of tokamak power reactors which are bulk heated by electron cyclotron resonance heating (ECRH). Four heating modes are considered: ordinary wave heating at the electron cyclotron frequency, 0, and at the second harmonic frequency, 20, and extraordinary wave heating at 0 and at 20. For ordinary wave heating at 1, which appears to ...
متن کاملHigh Frequency Gyrotrons and Their Application to Tokamak Plasma Heating
High frequency (> 200 GHz) gyrotrons are potentially useful for several important applications, including plasma heating and radar. For electron cyclotron resonance heating of a moderate-size, high power density tokamak power reactor to ignition temperatures, a gyrotron frequency around 200 GHz appears to be necessary. The design of high frequency gyrotrons is discussed. Analysis of overall gyr...
متن کاملDirect Observation of Self-Heating in III–V Gate-All-Around Nanowire MOSFETs
Gate-all-around (GAA) MOSFETs use multiple nanowires (NWs) to achieve target ION, along with excellent 3-D electrostatic control of the channel. Although the self-heating effect has been a persistent concern, the existing characterization methods, based on indirect measure of mobility and specialized test structures, do not offer adequate spatiotemporal resolution. In this paper, we develop an ...
متن کاملHeating in the Accreted Neutron Star Ocean: Implications for Superburst Ignition
We perform a self-consistent calculation of the thermal structure in the crust of a superbursting neutron star. In particular, we follow the nucleosynthetic evolution of an accreted element from deposition into the atmosphere down to neutron drip density. We include temperature-dependent continuum electron capture rates and realistic sources of heat loss by thermal neutrino emission from the cr...
متن کاملHot-Electron Heating Caused by Two-Plasmon-Decay Instability
LLE Review, Volume 126 66 Introduction High-energy electrons are detrimental to laser fusion because they can preheat the fuel, preventing the high compression necessary for central hot-spot ignition and high gain.1 The direct-drive approach is particularly vulnerable as a result of the long scale length of plasma that exists at the quarter-critical density of the target, although it can also o...
